Diagnosing Urology Problems
A urologist uses a variety of tests to diagnose urologic symptoms. Some of these tests include:
- MRI with ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy to pinpoint suspicious areas in the prostate
- Transperineal (needle) biopsy to look for cancer in the prostate
- Urodynamic studies to see how the lower urinary tract holds and releases urine
- Cystoscopy to find why you’re having trouble urinating, look for stones, tumors or other problems in your bladder and sources of bleeding or blockages
Cystoscopy: What to Expect
You’ll empty your bladder before the cystoscopy procedure. To perform the procedure, your doctor will put a thin tube with a tiny camera and light on the end into your urethra. The camera sends pictures to a screen so your doctor can examine your bladder and urethra (the urine tube).
