When to Come to the Hospital
Anticipation and excitement build when you're close to meeting your baby. Know when your body is giving clear signals to go to the hospital.
Recognize Signs of Labor
You might think you’re in labor when you’re not. False labor — or Braxton-Hicks contractions — can start as your due date gets closer. Use these signs to know if it’s really time to come to the hospital:
- Contractions are strong and come every five minutes, lasting about one minute each
- Your water breaks
- You notice less movement from your baby
- You’re bleeding more than just spotting
- You feel worried or uncomfortable at home
If you're not sure, call your doctor or midwife. They'll tell you what to do next.
If your water breaks, note the time, fluid’s color and amount so you can tell us.
In case of a pregnancy emergency, call 911.
